When I heard that Brianna “Chickenfry” LaPaglia, the Barstool Sports queen of unapologetic honesty, had ended her relationship with country singer Zach Bryan, I felt this wave of empathy wash over me. Not just because I admire Brianna and her journey, but because I’ve been there myself — caught in relationships that were one-sided, that drained me emotionally, and where love and respect felt like they were always just out of reach.

Not just because I admire Brianna and her journey, but because I’ve been there myself — caught in relationships that were one-sided, that drained me emotionally, and where love and respect felt like they were always just out of reach. Letting go of someone you love, especially when that connection isn’t healthy, is one of the hardest things to do.

Watching Brianna navigate this chapter with such strength got me thinking about the lessons I’ve learned about emotional abuse, self-worth, and the courage it takes to choose yourself over someone who might not be treating you right. So, here’s what I’ve learned — and what I hope we can all take from Brianna’s story.
