Why We Need to End the Hook-Up Culture & Get Serious About Dating
The hook-up culture, or casual sex culture, has been gaining popularity for decades. It’s become so widespread that many don’t even realize they’re participating in it. However, there is much more to casual sex than meets the eye.
When you take a moment to analyze all aspects of this phenomenon from an evolutionary standpoint — why we have these desires and what impact they have on us — it becomes clear that while we may not be able to end the hook-up or casual dating culture entirely, we can make a concerted effort to get serious about dating for long-term commitment instead.
What is the Hook-Up Culture
The hook-up culture is a culture that encourages casual sex, casual dating, and even relationships with no commitment and no future. The hook-up culture has become so pervasive that we don’t even think about it anymore. It’s so pervasive that many young people don’t know what dating is supposed to look like because they’ve never experienced it. When you’re in the hook-up culture, you can go out with someone one night and never see them again. Then, if they ask you out on another date, they are considered “clingy.”
