Why Putting People on a Pedestal is Unhealthy For Your Mental Health
In life, we’re all given different opportunities and challenges. The way we respond to these obstacles is what shapes us as individuals.
When it comes to mental health, one of the most common issues people face is putting other people on a pedestal. This happens when you idealize someone not worthy of your adoration or worship. Unfortunately, it can happen with celebrities or even family members — and it can be unhealthy for your mental health if you’re not careful!
You start to “lose yourself” in idolization.
The more you idolize a person, the more you see them as perfect and infallible. You start to believe they are incapable of doing wrong and may even think they are responsible for your happiness. This can lead to an unhealthy relationship with the idolized person — and it might even come at the expense of your mental health!
You might start believing that you are nothing without them. When this happens, we start looking at ourselves through their eyes instead of our own — which is scary because we don’t know how they see us yet! Maybe they think we’re unique, or maybe not so much? Unfortunately, there’s no way for us to know until it’s too late…
