What To Do When You’re in a Career Funk
I’ve been there. You know what I’m talking about. When you’ve been going hard at work for months and months, and suddenly it feels like you’re not getting anywhere. You start having difficulty focusing on even the simplest tasks, and your motivation is at an all-time low.
At first, this seems like no big deal — maybe you need a vacation or something else to break up the monotony of work life. However, if this feeling persists past a few weeks or months, it can develop into something much more severe: burnout! While there isn’t one surefire way to prevent career burnout from happening in the first place (or reverse it once it’s already started), there are certainly some things you can do that will help keep your mind clear and focused so that burning out doesn’t happen in the first place:
1. Pause
Take a break. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, overwhelmed feelings can be a sign that it’s time to take a break from the source of stress. Pause and reflect on how long you’ve been working and how that has affected your health and well-being. Then decide if taking some time off would be helpful for both your mind and body.
Choose an activity that brings joy, such as spending time with friends or family, doing something creative, going on an adventure, or just relaxing at home. Make sure this activity…
