What To Do When Comparison Takes Over Your Mind
Call it imposture syndrome, if you must, but now and then, I get stuck in my head and feel down and out, feeling like I haven't accomplished all the things I want to do so far in my life. With social media constantly in our face showing us what everyone else is doing and achieving, it's easy to get caught up in comparison.
It's easy to feel less than when you see that all your old friends have bought a house, got married, had a baby, have an incredible job that pays a fortune. It's frustrating when you see everything outside not taken into consideration. That house was bought with money given to them, that baby was born out of wedlock, and that incredible job stresses them out to the point of sickness.
We forget how far we've come and how fortunate we are not for all that we have but for the things we don't. My dad always tells me, "I'm proud of you, not just for what you've done, but for what you haven't done." So I often remind myself of when I start comparing my life to others on social media.
In all areas of your life, it's essential to stay in your lane; focus on what you need and want to do to be the best version of yourself.
