What Should I Do if My Partner Doesn’t Listen to Me?

It’s challenging for couples: one partner is not listening to the other. It can be frustrating, especially if your needs aren't met or your partner doesn’t appreciate what you have to say. But do not give up! Effective communication is a crucial aspect of any relationship and is essential to maintain throughout its lifespan.

If you want to improve your communication with your partner, follow these steps:

1. Ask your partner why they are not listening.

First, you should ask your partner why they are not listening. Communicate your feelings and be honest and vulnerable in the process. When you are honest about how it makes you feel when your partner is not listening, it will be easier for them to understand how important this is to you.

When asking your partner why they are not listening, listen carefully to their answer(s). Then, ask them what they think the problem may be or what could help resolve it. If they offer solutions or suggestions, give them a chance by implementing some of those ideas.

2. Be honest and vulnerable, and show that you care.
