Stress-Busting Tips to Heal Your Nervous System
Stress creeps into our lives and wreaks havoc on our physical, mental, and emotional health. It is no surprise that stress can cause or worsen physical issues, such as pain or heart disease. But did you know that it can also take a toll on your nervous system? Fortunately, there are ways to heal your nervous system and reduce the effects of stress. Read on for some helpful tips.
Learn to Relax
The first step in healing your nervous system is learning how to relax. Take time each day to sit quietly and focus on mindful breathing. Let go of thoughts of the past and worries about the future. If your mind starts to wander, refocus on your breath. This exercise will help you break out of the habit of meditating over stressful situations and allow you to be present at the moment.
Move Your Body
Regular exercise can help reduce stress levels by releasing endorphins, (the body’s natural painkillers). Exercise can also stimulate the production of serotonin — a neurotransmitter associated with feelings of well-being — which can help reduce anxiety levels. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise daily, but don’t forget to listen to your body and rest when needed!
