I make decisions based on what’s best for my puppy and me. I don’t need a man to tell me what to do or how to do it. Some people say they’re not “traditional,” but they still want things like marriage, kids, and a house with a white picket fence — I’m here to tell you that’s not independence at all.

Real liberation is not needing anyone else to be happy. If you’re ready for more than just the standard life path, read on for some tips about how you can become an independent woman like me.

I don’t want ever to be “tied down.”

Being independent is something I’ve been for as long as I can remember. Even as a child, I was never one to need companionship — I’d rather have my own space and be alone with my thoughts and daydreams than spend time with someone else, unless it was with a few of my closest and dearest friends.

It’s not that I don’t like people — I prefer the solitude of my own company most of the time. This doesn’t mean that I don’t want relationships; it simply means that they’re not necessary for me to feel happy or content with life.

As an adult, this hasn’t changed much; if anything, it has intensified over time as my confidence grows and becomes more secure. It allows me greater freedom and control over my choices without feeling guilty…
