Mixing Alcohol With Self-Care is an Oxymoron: Let Me Explain
Mixing alcohol and self-care is a dangerous game. Alcohol is a depressant that can lead to binge drinking and even addiction. In addition, it messes with our sleep patterns, negatively impacting our ability to get adequate rest and lowering our inhibitions when we’re out socializing.
Drinking alcohol can also lead to nutritional deficiencies over time — not what you want after working hard at the gym or spending hours in the kitchen! In this article, I’ll explain everything you need to know about mixing alcohol with self-care to make better choices for your health and well-being.
Alcohol is a depressant.
This means it slows down your central nervous system, which controls the activity of your brain, heart, and lungs. As a result, drinking alcohol can cause drowsiness and sleepiness; indeed, many people consume it to unwind at the end of the day or fall asleep more easily at night.
It can also lower your inhibitions — meaning that when you’re under the influence of booze, you feel less inhibited about what’s happening around you than usual — which may lead to some questionable decisions or potentially dangerous situations (such as driving while intoxicated).
