Finding Meaning and Purpose After a Loss
There are few things more devastating than losing a loved one. Whether it’s a parent, grandparent, sibling, or friend, losing someone close to you can shake your entire being. It doesn’t matter how old you are or who you are— a death in the family can take an emotional toll on anyone who experiences it. So, how do you move forward after such an event?
I recently lost my grandmother to Alzheimer's, a debilitating and cruel disease that took her from my life, but I was able to spend priceless time with her until the end. I was able to tell her how much she meant to me and show her how much I loved her. I was able to express my gratitude to her for her kindness and love throughout my life. I was able to say my goodbyes and thank her for being such a wonderful role model and lovely woman that so many people loved and admired.
I understand many people don’t get this same opportunity.
Although I have peace knowing she is no longer suffering, I feel a deep sense of loss and grief.
By writing and sharing my experience with Alzheimer’s and loss, I hope to help others find a sense of meaning and purpose in their lives after a loss and be able to move forward with a positive outlook and a renewed sense of purpose.
