Binge Drinking: Why Has it Become a Phenomenon

Everywhere you look, it seems like people are drinking more than ever before, and society accepts it as something we do, and it isn’t a problem. Except it is a problem, and alcohol is a poison that people consume without realizing how damaging it is to their bodies and lives.

I recently had a friend discover that she was pregnant, and after much reflection, she told me how it was a blessing this happened because if it didn’t, she doesn’t know if she would have been able to quit drinking. We have had many discussions about helping her get sober, but those conversions didn’t stick because the next day, at 10 am, she would be up drinking White Claw like it was perfectly normal. Only it wasn’t normal, it isn’t normal, and I believe more people than we realize, especially in their 30s and 40s, are experiencing difficulty getting sober because of how our culture is looking at the use of alcohol.

Binge Drinking: Why Has it Become Such a Phenomenon

Social media has a massive impact on what we consider to be acceptable in society. We see influencers, our friends, and family laughing up a storm about the wild drunken night they had before and how hungover they are the next day. Many people drink during the week and show up to work hungover; they look forward to the weekend to party with friends and overindulge. It’s an absolute crisis that seems to be overlooked entirely.
